Thank you for your interest in Sewelson Designs in wood, my Online Gallery  of Woodturned Vessels and Bowls.

I'm always thrilled to discover how each piece of wood will present it's unique beauty.

I have been collecting and working with wood for over 30 years. I was employed for 12 years by one of the few companies in the world producing commercial marquetry. There I spent many days cutting and sorting exotic hardwoods like ebony, tulipwood and rosewood for the creation of inlays and banding.

After many years of selling my work (mostly lidded boxes) through craft galleries and shows, I took a break from all craft work to pursue a belated college degree in the mental health field.  I moved from Long Island, NY to Florida and   I continue to work in that most rewarding field today.

However, my love for wood and my passion for woodturning is more than just a hobby.  So, here I am, in a new exciting marketplace ready to be part of this wonderful craft again.

I will be adding new turned vessels on a regular basis as well as exotic wood boxes and perhaps some sculptural work. So please,  check back often.

My lathe is  very basic. I  opt for homemade chucks and use only a few chisels.  I turn both green and dry woods,  however the material presents itself.

I primarily use a penetrating oil finish with some buffing and carnuaba wax in the process.

I'm proud to be part of an ever growing field of  artisans creating new works for many to enjoy in this new online world. As I have  benefited from online turning information, I will be adding tips and resources in the hope it will also be helpful to others.

                                                  Enjoy your visit!
